Third-party licences
Last updated .
SHD Sim is built on open-source software. This page is a licence obligation rather than marketing: where a component is under a copyleft licence we are required to make the corresponding source available, and to tell you your rights in it. We do both.
Principal components
| Component | Used for | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| OpenFOAM | CFD solvers and meshing (snappyHexMesh) | GPL-3.0 |
| Qt 6 | Application user interface | LGPL-3.0 |
| Open CASCADE Technology (OCCT) | STEP, IGES and BREP geometry import | LGPL-2.1 with exception |
| VTK | Post-processing and visualisation | BSD-3-Clause |
The wider module set includes further components — including code_aster, Elmer, SU2 and OpenRadioss — each under its own licence. Those are described in the open-source stack guide and reflected in the product pages that use them.
Your rights in the GPL and LGPL components
OpenFOAM is licensed to you under the GPL-3.0, not under our EULA. That licence grants you rights we cannot restrict, including the right to obtain, study, modify and redistribute its source code. Nothing in our EULA is intended to limit those rights, and to the extent of any conflict the GPL prevails for that component.
Written offer for source code. The complete corresponding source for the GPL and LGPL components we distribute, including any modifications we have made and the scripts used to build and install them, is published alongside each release. If you cannot obtain it there, we will send it to you on request for a period of three years from the date we distributed the binary, for no more than our reasonable cost of physically performing the distribution. Write to legal@shd-sim.com.
Qt and OCCT are dynamically linked as shared libraries, so that you may replace them with your own modified versions as the LGPL requires.
Trademarks
OPENFOAM® is a registered trademark of OpenCFD Limited, producer and distributor of the OpenFOAM software via www.openfoam.com. This offering is not approved or endorsed by OpenCFD Limited. Qt is a trademark of The Qt Company Ltd. Other names are the trademarks of their respective owners, used only to identify the software concerned.
Complete manifest
A full component-by-component list with exact versions and the complete text of every licence ships inside the application under Help → Third-party licences, and accompanies each release. If you need it before installing, ask at legal@shd-sim.com and we will send it.
