SHD Sim Shape

Adjoint shape optimisation

Discrete and continuous adjoint, gradient-based

SU2

In development.

This module is phase 5 — a full ui surface of its own. The solver behind it is chosen and its capability is known. SHD Sim is available today.

What it is

The adjoint solves one extra problem to get the sensitivity of an objective with respect to every design variable at once. That cost is nearly independent of how many variables there are, which is the whole justification: a finite-difference sweep needs one run per variable, and a shape has hundreds.

What this analysis needs from you

  • A differentiable objective such as drag, pressure loss or uniformity
  • A parameterised geometry, usually free-form deformation
  • SU2, and a mesh in .su2 or CGNS format

Typical uses

  • Drag reduction under lift and packaging constraints
  • Duct and manifold shape for pressure loss
  • Turbomachinery blade profiling
  • Any shape problem with more variables than a sweep can cover

Industries

Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.

  • Automotive & motorsport
  • Turbomachinery
  • HVAC & ducting
  • Aerospace

What comes out

  • An improved shape, iterated
  • Objective history per step
  • Surface sensitivity at each iteration
  • Constraint satisfaction record

Backend

SU2

Chosen for this analysis type, with its capability verified against the module plan — not decided later.

Status

Phase 5 — a full UI surface of its own. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
