Surface sensitivity as a field — a genuinely new post-processing output
SU2
In development.
What it is
Surface sensitivity plotted as a field on the geometry: how much the objective would change if this point moved outward. A genuinely new post-processing output rather than a number, and often more useful than the optimised shape, because it tells a designer where effort pays.
What this analysis needs from you
- An adjoint solution, from which the map falls out
- A surface field viewer in the post-processor
- An objective worth taking sensitivities of
Typical uses
- Directing manual design effort to the regions that matter
- Explaining why a shape change did or did not help
- Screening which surfaces are worth parameterising at all
- Communicating aerodynamic priorities to non-specialists
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Automotive
- Aerospace
- Turbomachinery
- Consultancy
What comes out
- Sensitivity painted on the surface
- Ranked regions worth changing
- Direction of beneficial movement
- Evidence for design reviews

Status
Phase 5 — a full UI surface of its own. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
