SHD Sim Studies
Uncertainty quantification
Propagation, reliability, Sobol indices
Dakota
In development.
This module is phase 4 on paper — but it needs no new backend. The solver behind it is chosen and its capability is known. SHD Sim is available today.
What it is
Inputs are not exact, so the answer is not either. UQ propagates input distributions to an output distribution, and Sobol indices apportion the output variance among the inputs, turning a single number into a number with error bars and a reason for them.
What this analysis needs from you
- Input distributions rather than point values, which is genuine work to establish
- Many runs, since this is the most expensive study type
- Dakota
Typical uses
- Putting error bars on a simulation result
- Reliability and probability-of-failure assessment
- Deciding which input is worth measuring more accurately
- Answering a reviewer asking how confident you are
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Safety-critical sectors
- Aerospace & defence
- Energy
- Regulatory submissions
What comes out
- Output distributions, not point values
- Confidence intervals on results
- Sobol sensitivity indices
- Which input is worth measuring better
Backend
Dakota
Chosen for this analysis type, with its capability verified against the module plan — not decided later.
Status
Phase 4 on paper — but it needs no new backend. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
