Wall heat flux to thermal
Flux mapped to a solid, then thermal stress and fatigue
MEDCoupling
In development.
What it is
The thermal twin of pressure mapping: wall heat flux from a flow solution becomes the boundary condition on a solid, which gives a temperature field and the thermal stress that follows. Cheaper than conjugate heat transfer, and right when the solid response is what you want.
What this analysis needs from you
- A CFD run reporting wall heat flux
- An FE mesh and thermal properties for the solid
- A mapping scheme, and a check that total heat is conserved across it
Typical uses
- Thermal stress in exhaust and hot-gas components
- Turbine blade and cooling passage assessment
- Thermal fatigue from a cycling duty
- Where CHT would be overkill but a guessed coefficient would not do
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Exhaust & hot-gas parts
- Turbomachinery
- Power electronics
- Process equipment
What comes out
- Metal temperatures from real flow heating
- Thermal stress that follows
- Conserved-flux mapping check
- Cycling severity input

Status
Phase 4 — one-way mapping comes well before two-way. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
