SHD Sim Acoustics
Aeroacoustic sources

In development.
This module is phase 3 — arrives with the elmer integration. The solver behind it is chosen and its capability is known. SHD Sim is available today.
What it is
Turbulent flow generates sound, and the sources can be extracted from an unsteady CFD field: Curle for surface sources, Proudman for volume sources. This is the one part of the acoustics module already in the bundled solver set, and it runs today.
What this analysis needs from you
- An unsteady flow solution, DES or LES rather than steady RANS
- A time step and sampling rate resolving the frequencies of interest
- Considerable compute, since the unsteady run dominates the cost
Typical uses
- Fan and blower noise source location
- Cavity and side-mirror wind noise
- Jet and exhaust noise sources
- Identifying which surface is actually generating the noise
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Fans & blowers
- Automotive
- Wind turbines
- Consumer products
What comes out
- Source location maps
- Source spectra
- Surface contribution ranking
- Design change comparison

Status
Phase 3 — arrives with the Elmer integration. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
