Far-field propagation
No good open-source FW-H integration exists; it would be ours over OpenFOAM surface data
our own post-processing
In development.
What it is
Taking near-field source data and propagating it to a distant observer, normally by Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings surface integration. No mature open-source implementation exists to build on, so this would be ours to write over OpenFOAM surface data rather than somebody else's to integrate.
What this analysis needs from you
- A surface-data sampling from an unsteady run
- An observer location and a propagation model
- Acceptance that this is the least mature item in the catalogue
Typical uses
- Community noise at a distance from a source
- Aircraft flyover and certification-style predictions
- Wind turbine noise at a receptor
- Anywhere the observer is far outside the CFD domain
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Wind energy
- Aerospace
- Environmental consultancy
- Infrastructure
What comes out
- Far-field levels at receptors
- Directivity at distance
- Flyover-style time histories
- Community noise contours

Chosen for this analysis type, with its capability verified against the module plan — not decided later.
Status
Phase 3 — arrives with the Elmer integration. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
