SHD Sim Acoustics
Duct and cavity acoustics
Modes and transmission loss
Elmer
In development.
This module is phase 3 — arrives with the elmer integration. The solver behind it is chosen and its capability is known. SHD Sim is available today.
What it is
The Helmholtz equation in an enclosed volume, giving the modes a cavity supports and the transmission loss a duct provides. Geometry sets the frequencies entirely, which is why a silencer is a shape problem rather than a material one.
What this analysis needs from you
- The fluid volume as the modelled domain, not the solid around it
- Acoustic impedance at the terminations
- A frequency range worth resolving
Typical uses
- Exhaust and intake silencer design
- HVAC duct noise and attenuation
- Vehicle cabin boom modes
- Musical and audio enclosure design
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Exhaust & intake systems
- HVAC
- Musical instruments
- Compressor systems
What comes out
- Cavity modes and frequencies
- Transmission loss curves
- Silencer insertion loss
- Resonator tuning

Status
Phase 3 — arrives with the Elmer integration. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
