SHD Sim EM
Current conduction (DC)
Resistive networks in solids, current density
Elmer
In development.
This module is phase 3 — after structural and thermal. The solver behind it is chosen and its capability is known. SHD Sim is available today.
What it is
Steady current through a conducting solid, giving current density and the resistance it implies. Where a circuit model gives one number for a resistor, this shows where the current actually goes, which is the difference between a part that works and one that develops a hot spot.
What this analysis needs from you
- Electrical conductivity for each material
- Current injection or fixed potential at the terminals
- Geometry resolved where the current is expected to crowd
Typical uses
- Busbar and terminal resistance
- Grounding and earthing grid design
- Electrochemical and corrosion current paths
- Contact resistance in connectors
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Busbars & connectors
- Grounding systems
- Electrochemistry
- PCB power delivery
What comes out
- Current density distribution
- Resistance of the real geometry
- Crowding at holes and necks
- Voltage drop maps

Status
Phase 3 — after structural and thermal. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
