In development.
This module is phase 3 — after structural and thermal. The solver behind it is chosen and its capability is known. SHD Sim is available today.
What it is
Poisson's equation on electric potential, with no current flowing. It gives the field between conductors, the capacitance between them and the force they exert on each other. The field concentrates at sharp edges, which is why breakdown starts there.
What this analysis needs from you
- Permittivity for each dielectric
- Conductor potentials or charges as boundary conditions
- A domain large enough that the far-field boundary does not distort the answer
Typical uses
- Insulator and bushing design, and where they flash over
- Capacitive sensor design
- MEMS actuator pull-in force
- High-voltage clearance and creepage checks
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- High voltage equipment
- Sensors & MEMS
- Printing & coating
- Power transmission
What comes out
- Electric field distribution
- Peak field at edges and gaps
- Capacitance values
- Breakdown margin indication

Status
Phase 3 — after structural and thermal. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
