In development.
This module is phase 2 — the next module after cfd. The solver behind it is chosen and its capability is known. SHD Sim is available today.
What it is
Materials degrade before they separate: microcracks accumulate and stiffness falls. Continuum damage models carry a damage variable that softens the material as it grows, which captures the run-up to failure rather than only the moment of it — and brings mesh sensitivity that has to be managed.
What this analysis needs from you
- A damage model with calibrated parameters, usually from test data
- Careful meshing — softening localises into whichever elements are smallest
- code_aster
Typical uses
- Ductile failure prediction in forming and crash
- Concrete cracking in civil structures
- Composite progressive failure
- Predicting where failure initiates, not just where stress is highest
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Composites manufacturing
- Automotive crash
- Defence
- Research & academia
What comes out
- Damage initiation sites
- Stiffness degradation history
- Failure progression sequence
- Energy absorbed

Chosen for this analysis type, with its capability verified against the module plan — not decided later.
Status
Phase 2 — the next module after CFD. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
