Nonlinear static
Large deformation, plasticity, hyperelasticity
code_aster
In development.
What it is
Still a static answer, but the stiffness changes as the solution proceeds — because the geometry has moved enough to matter, because the material has yielded, or both. Solved in load increments with equilibrium iterations at each one, so it can fail to converge in ways linear static never does.
What this analysis needs from you
- A yield stress and a hardening curve for plasticity, or a hyperelastic model for rubber
- A load-step schedule, and patience if contact is involved
- A view on whether large deflection matters — turning it on when it does not costs time for nothing
Typical uses
- Snap fits and press fits
- Plastic collapse and limit load
- Rubber seals and gaskets under compression
- Sheet and shell structures that deflect past their own thickness
- Anything where linear static predicts a stress above yield
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Seals & elastomers
- Sheet & thin-wall structures
- Medical devices
- Automotive
What comes out
- Large-deflection equilibrium shapes
- Load-displacement curves
- Contact and follower-load effects
- Post-yield redistribution

Status
Phase 2 — the next module after CFD. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
