Harmonic response
Frequency sweep against a periodic load
code_aster
In development.
What it is
Steady-state response to a load that oscillates at a fixed frequency, swept across a range. The output is amplitude and phase against frequency, so a resonance appears as a peak whose height is set by damping. It answers what modal cannot: not only where the resonances are, but how badly they matter.
What this analysis needs from you
- A modal analysis first, in most workflows
- A damping model — the peak height is entirely determined by it, and it is the hardest number to know
- The excitation as a frequency-dependent load
Typical uses
- Vibration of equipment on a shaking base
- Rotating machinery unbalance response
- Qualifying a component against a vibration specification
- Choosing isolator stiffness
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Rotating machinery
- Electronics under vibration
- Automotive
- Test-rig correlation
What comes out
- Response amplitude versus frequency
- Resonance peaks and margins
- Dynamic stress at critical points
- Transmissibility between points

Status
Phase 2 — the next module after CFD. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
