What it is
Response to ground motion, either as a response spectrum — an envelope of peak response against frequency, combined across modes — or as a full time history. Spectrum methods are what codes are written around, because they give a conservative answer without integrating the whole earthquake.
What this analysis needs from you
- A modal analysis, since spectrum methods combine modal responses
- The design spectrum from the governing code
- A modal combination rule — SRSS or CQC — and a view on which the code demands
