SHD Sim FEA
Transient dynamics
Implicit time integration
code_aster
In development.
This module is phase 2 — the next module after cfd. The solver behind it is chosen and its capability is known. SHD Sim is available today.
What it is
Implicit time integration of a structure under a time-varying load. Suited to events measured in tenths of a second and longer, where the structure has time to respond as a whole. Anything faster — impact, blast, ballistics — belongs to an explicit solver instead, and a different module.
What this analysis needs from you
- A load history in time
- A damping model
- A time step small enough to resolve the response, which is a convergence question rather than a preference
Typical uses
- Start-up and shutdown transients
- Shock and drop, at moderate rates
- Moving loads across a structure
- Seismic time-history when a spectrum will not do
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Machinery under shock
- Transport & handling
- Defence
- Lifting equipment
What comes out
- Time histories of motion and stress
- Peak response and when it occurs
- Ringdown and damping behaviour
- Load-path timing

Chosen for this analysis type, with its capability verified against the module plan — not decided later.
Status
Phase 2 — the next module after CFD. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
