SHD Sim Thermal
Transient conduction
Thermal soak, transient response
code_aster / Elmer
In development.
This module is phase 2–3 — largely arrives with structural. The solver behind it is chosen and its capability is known. SHD Sim is available today.
What it is
The same conduction problem with time in it, so the answer is a curve rather than a number. Thermal mass is what makes it different: specific heat and density decide how long the part takes to respond, and that lag is usually what the process depends on.
What this analysis needs from you
- Specific heat and density as well as conductivity
- An initial temperature field
- A time-varying boundary condition, and a run long enough to matter
Typical uses
- Warm-up and cool-down times
- Thermal soak in an enclosure after shutdown
- Quench and heat-treatment schedules
- Whether a transient excursion ever reaches a damaging temperature
Industries
Sectors where this analysis is routinely asked for.
- Heat treatment
- Food processing
- Electronics duty cycling
- Fire protection
What comes out
- Temperature histories at points
- Penetration depth over time
- Time to limits
- Thermal lag of the mass

Chosen for this analysis type, with its capability verified against the module plan — not decided later.
Status
Phase 2–3 — largely arrives with structural. Telling us you need this analysis moves it up the order — modules are sequenced by who is waiting for them.
